What About Bob Books?

When I was first homeschooling I asked about early readers. A good friend and successful homeschooler said to me, "Of course you know about The Bob Books"! I was embarrased to admit that I did not.

It's difficult to explain the Bob books- they are a series of small paperback books, sized mini to fit into a child's hands with simple illustrations and a simple and appealing storyline. The characters- Mat and Sam in the first book are adventurous and goodnatured creatures that will make you smile because they are always smiling. And when you are teaching a child how to read- you need to smile- sometimes from sheer force of the will. These will help.

The first set is for Beginning Readers and comes with 12 small books arranged in a neat box so they will not be scattered all over the house.

You will like these little books and most importantly your children will like them. They would make a great Christmas gift for your grandchildren, they are essential for homeschoolers or anyone who is teaching a young child to read and looking for phonics enrichment. And unlike those ridiculous "Hooked on Phonics" programs- did anyone ever really use those? These are reasonably priced and well worth the money- even to a penny pincher like me.

Available at Amazon.

I think BOB stands for Beginning of Books. I made that up :)

That is what we use! :) I have the set from 1976... but missing a couple. I also make flashcards of all the words on index cards. BOB is for the lady who created them, Bobby Lynn Maslen. They have free stuff at the website that you can print out that relates to the books:

We've been homeschooling for 5 years now! I keep hearing about these books but I haven't needed them until now. My first grader just seems to need more than just 100EL.

I just ordered these last week and have been debating with myself if it was really worth the money.

Thank you!!

I think someone didn't like the bob books after all and Mary is trying to keep it from us!!

If you had been reading this site regularly ahem! You would know that Karen started a post and then it was published before she was finished.

You two need to get a life or better yet- work on your own blogs!

yes, I deleted my own post because I meant to add the link.

Wow - Anonymous has gotten quite cheeky.

I consider myself a regular. I just don't always carry my fan club card with me.

How would anyone know that it was Karen?

LOL.

Well, as English is probably not your first language, I would suggest what is right under:COMMENT DELETED:
says "THIS POST HAS BEEN REMOVED BY THE AUTHOR" Get it? AUTHOR=Karen.
Now, it could have been an entirely different author, but certainly not the blog owner/moderator/censor! As the comments came in it was obvious Karen was the author. Duh.

I think anonymous needs to turn that frown upside down

You know that Blondie song "Rip Her to Shreds"? I'm thinking of that right now...that and "Barracuda."
Great site!

surgite et coffeam olfacite said...

umm, okay that's weird.

I consider the reference to Blondie a racial slur against me and my people.

Hey Anonymous, how about you pick another name?

And I hope you know that in the baracuda song, its porpoise, not purpose. Quite different.

And I agree with the Blondie song, who even SELLS green mascara?

If you can't find something funny to say, then you should join Posters with a Problem. If that group doesn't exist, maybe you should start it.

Hey! Don't be mean. I'll cry! There are at leaat 2 anonymouses on this comment section...I am the 2nd anon of the 'not-so-bright' and "Duh". The other anon comments are obviously from some flaky
anon from section7 or somewhere out there...And, surgite, BTW if I turned my facial expression writing my comment, "upside down" it would BE a frown!! ;)=(

surgite et coffeam olfacite said...

That 's why I said turn your frown upside down not whatever facial expression you happen to be wearing.
I'd dispense with the anon, I've figured out your identity. . .

All of this rudeness aside I actually took a few seconds to ponder what sugite et coffeam olfacite means....that is pretty funny :)

The reader from Section7 is surprised at being dragged into this kitten fight (see comment #19). FYI I never post as "anonymous."
