Unfailing Novena to St. Joseph

Oh, St Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, St Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. Oh, St Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St Joseph, Patron of departing souls, Pray for me.

This is one of my favorite prayers. I don't like pictures of Saint Joseph depicted as an old man though

St. Joseph is a favorite of mine.

I have heard of scholarship that suggest that in ancient times, it was normal for older men to take young wives.

of course, the details of his life are somewhat of a mystery.

I enjoyed reading some analysis of his vocation. In the greek his job is described as "techton", more of a general contractor than a carpenter. Most major construction was in stone and it was likely that he and his step-son, Jesus, were quite straping , i.e. physically strong.

This analysis also dispels the Marxist insinuations that Joseph was some sort of indigent. False. Mary gave birth in a barn due to the inns being full not because Joseph was penniless.

Thomas Shawn:

I think that the idea that Mary and Joseph were poor was because they brought two turtle doves to the Temple at the Presentation which was prescribed for poorer people.
