Muslim "Saint"

Now there's an oxymoron if there ever was one.

I can't believe there are still people who think:

1. This is actually a religion.
2. It was generous and wellmeaning to apologize for the Crusades
3. We were correct in ending the Crusades.
4. Islam is the religion of peace.

Yeah my dad used to shave with a straight razor.

I don't remember it being so large a blade, however.

Nor so much blood.

My lab partner in college is a devout Muslim woman. I deeply respect her and if it were not for my encounter with her and her family, I would hold your beliefs about Islam.

I'd be interested in hearing you expand on your comment. Does your friend's representation of Islam mesh with the picture on this post?

Also, was she an American?

Petrus,

My friend was an immigrant from Bangladesh and her family's version of Islam does not mesh with the photo.

I am split about this picture. Like most sane people, I think Islamic Fascism is a real threat and something to fear. We must fight them with everything we have.

Yet, this photo is a pilgrimage. In the beloved Medieval times, priests and nuns used to flagellate themselves looking just as disgusting and bloody as the said photo.

I would hope to God that Catholic women going into abortion clinics would not be seen as representatives of the Catholic Faith. Or those of the IRA, or better yet, pro-abortion Catholic politicians. The problem of Islamic Fascism is that it is filling in a political void that has been created by Islamic governments.

I am thankful to my friend & our many hours long conversations about our Faiths because if it were not for her, I would not have any respect for Muslims.

Remember, if it had NOT been for Pope JPII and ALL THE MUSLIM COUNTRIES, abortion would have been made a human right at the infamous 1994 UN Population Conference.

The following article is essential reading for anyone worried about the Islamic threat:

Unfortunatetly, your comments only show your ignorance. You might be interested to know that the author of this blog spent three years in Saudi Arabia. I wouldn't dimsiss her comments regarding Islam as ignorant, nor compare them to yours as a young college student.

Further, your comments regarding the IRA also show your ignorance. You could read some biographies of very faithful Catholic men who were imprisoned, tortured, degraded with every possible form of violence, and eventually killed in a book called The Blanket Men. These men, some formal members of the IRA, others simply suspected - all thrown into prison under kangaroo courts and held without cause - all victims of British formal terrorism in Northern Ireland. Before you start criticizing people who are refused housing, jobs and other basic civil liberties simply because their last name is Irish and not that of the landed gentry, read up on your history.

In regards to separating Islam Fascism with other types of Islam... I haven't seen enough evidence to support that this is the case. And yes, I've had muslim friends. One even told me that he started praying five times a day after I told him why I may daily visits to the chapel.

I hope that I don't spend eons in purgatory for that one!

In regards to so-called "catholic" pro-aborts: its obvious that they detest the Faith and all the truths it contains. The difference between those you are calling "islamic fascists" and "catholic pro-aborts" is that the Islamic fascists really are faithful to their religion, and "catholic pro-aborts" are not.

Lastly, are you really comparing flagellation done by SAINTS to this bizarre self-mutilation? Are you really implying that both practices are either crazy and without value, or that they are both equally sanctifying?

The Crusades began with a noble goal, but occasionally went astray, such as the Fourth Crusade - they were supposed to be in Jerusalem, not destroying Constantinople! The Pope was not wrong to apologize for such excesses that occurred during the Crusades. As for Islam, I just pray that as many of them as possible become Catholic! May God deliver them from their errors.

Petrus,

Hmm. I am well aware that the author lived in Saudi Arabia because she has told me.

I am sure we can justify all behaviors, right, depending on our perspective. Suffice it to say, I have studied the IRA movement & disagree with them bombing schools and killing children. The end does not justify the means.

As for your thoughts on Islam, I will have to think about. The problem is that the Wahabbi (sp?), which is what M.A. experienced in Saudi Arabia, is the fastest spreading form of Islam. Even moderate, very faithful Muslims are terrified of this version.

For the record, you say that pro-abort Catholics are not "real" Catholics. Yet I worked with Muslims in the schools who could not relate to extremist Muslims and they also dismissed them as hateful to their religion. I would argue that the Wahabbi brand of Islam is ONE version of Islam, and unfortunately right now, the most popular form.

I have read my history, sir. I just disagree with your version of events, which I think we can do by still being respectful to each other.

IRA bombing schools? Please reference your information on that one. I can find no information on it.

Not to change the subject here, but I am hoping some of you can recommend good, logical books that argue against moral relativism. My students are debating this weekend about "moral standards" and my students and another Christian school's students are the ONLY ones arguing against moral relativism.

Thanks.

RCM: The intro to Mere Christianity is pretty good. Other than something that deals with apologetics, I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly.

I believe it is ignorant to claim that Islam is not a religion of peace. What do you base this on? You base it on the WTC attacks? Or what the Koran says?

Do you realize we could say the same thing about Catholocism?

Catholics have harmed people due to what "god has told them". Do we use this straw man as an argument against Catholics as a whole? I think not. The Old Testament is filled with brutal attacks, killings, and stonings. Do you believe that Catholocism is not a religion of peace because of this? I think not.

So before you judge (which you love to do) another religion, I suggest looking at how the exact same criteria can tear down your own faith.

You might be surprised to know I am a Catholic.

I'm shocked to think that you are a Catholic who cannot spell "Catholicism".

Disturbing.

Still ad hominem debates? Ah well. One can only try to provoke intelligent thought so many times.

Islam is wonderful to everyone who knows its true purpose. People today can be very ignorant (Simon-Peter)and post things they know nothing about. :)

According to any religion or book of religion we have read, ALL faith of LORD God have believed in killing. Whether for religion or for country. For mere taking over of cities many have died unjustly. Sick world it has been since the beginning of time. Words that cuts another is just as destroying. We have too MANY murderers...especially COLD hearts.
