Vatican Press Office Communique

Here it is.

Fr. Marcial, founder of the Legionnaires and Regnum Cristi, is suspended from public ministry. Taking into account his advanced age, he is 86, he has not been laicized.

Regainnetwork.org
is a group that helps former members of the Legionaires and Regnum Cristi who have suffered as a result of their involvement in the group.

Wow! That is the most cafefully worded document I've ever read. I guess there will be no admission of guilt or justification for the "alleged" victims; or, inversely, no declaration of innocence for Father Maciel.

Would anyone innocent agree to the latter?

I think you have to conclude that the CDF found at least some of the allegations credible. Is this a fair punishment? Essentially sileneced, removed from public life and consigned to a life of penance, might not seem enough to some. But Marciel is 86, in bad health, and Brian St. Paul, Editor of Crisis magazine, reports there are rumors that Fr. Marciel is now mentally impared. This is just bad all around - it will test people's faith no matter what they believe. Bad, and Sad.
